If you quit cold turkey, do not be fooled into believing that you will be able to change from a smoker to non-smoker without any side effects. Quitting Smoking Cold Turkey can be Fast and Easy

Let me start out this article by stating the obvious: whichever way you personally chose to use to become a non-smoker is, if successful, the best way. There is no absolute best way, as all people are addicted to cigarettes in different ways and to different degrees. It is true that nicotine itself is very addictive, and people are mostly addicted to nicotine in the same way, but that is only one aspect of being addicted to smoking cigarettes.

This article will not tell you how to quit smoking. The method you use is entirely up to you, but you have to be aware of the most commons methods out there. The two most popular methods of quitting smoking are quitting cigarettes cold turkey, and using nicotine replacement therapy.

Stopping cigarettes cold turkey is the most dramatic method, because it will involve the most cravings for nicotine, but overall will decrease the length of withdrawal symptoms, and if successful, will be the shortest and quickest method. It is not without pain, however, since you must at the same time stop smoking cigarettes, cutting off your brain’s supply of nicotine, while at the same time fighting off the temptation that will be everywhere in the form of your psychological addictions, your habits. A cigarette with beer, a cigarette while reading, a cigarette with coffee, a cigarette after a meal, the list goes on and on.

Nicotine replacement options include patches, lozenges, gum and fake inhaler cigarettes. While these are proven to work to some degree, I do not like them because they only prolong your addiction. I do not believe that the way to break an addiction is by consuming more of the stuff you’re addicted to.

That being said, whichever method you use is the right one if in the end, you are a non-smoker. That’s all that counts.

Now, how are going to succeed? Got any tricks/wisdom up your sleeve?

Many people regard quitting cold turkey as the only way with personal triumph or personal credit attached. And while this may be true for some, every person who quits regardless of the method needs support and needs tools to succeed. So you’ve stopped smoking, and the only thing left to do is not smoke. Your method simply involves an on-off switch. You were a smoker and now you are not. Each day you do not smoke is an accomplishment.

In order to be successful, you must fully commit to stopping smoking. Smoking cessation is effective only if you have the willpower, desire, and the support. In my opinion becoming smoke free for good is least effective when this method is used. Statistics show that quitting cold turkey is just as effective as any other method. But, in my experience and with those that I know, quitting cold turkey was not very effective as a permanent solution for smoking cessation. For me, even if I was able to quit cold turkey for several years, I always came back to the poison.

Cold turkey quitting involves hard work. But it’s worth it. Make sure you surround yourself with a positive, supportive network. Make sure you change your habits. Often, quitting smoking cold turkey is effortless. Success can be yours if you persist in your efforts.
