James Dean was an American actor, born in 1931 and dead in 1955, whose entire cinematic legacy, and legend, is based on his performances in three movies. Like most men of this era, James Dean smoked cigarettes. His bad boy persona, developed and featured in Rebel Without a Cause (1955) fit perfectly with the troubled, brooding look that goes so well with a cigarette dangling from the corner of the mouth.

But James Dean was a smart guy, as far as we could tell, and he would certainly have quit smoking if he had lived longer, learning about the debilitating nature of tobacco and its many health dangers.
